What are the differences between these versions. After a few years of exploring other Ww2 rules, I dug out my old copy of Rapid Fire and gave it a read. I was very refreshing in its simplicity of play mechanics but still has period feel. I was tempted to buy the new version but I was wondering if there is any point?

Very much worth it. The authors consolidated much of the clarifications as well as rules corrections in V2. Added a substantial section on advanced rules. They are still, as their name implies, "fast play world war two wargames rules".

The artillery rules have undergone the biggest change with a simple system doing away with the rather cumbersome artillery scatter grid. You only need that scatter grid now for rockets. Some prefer the old system so easy enough to plug in.

Highly recommend V2

V2 is slightly more complex but much better explained than V1. Keep V1 for the scenarios which do not appear in V2 and get V2 for the updated rules.

The boys are right, they are worth buying. Aside from what Marc wrote above, the aircraft rules have also been improved (at least in my opinion!). I have both versions, and always play version two.

v2 for rules, v1 for scenarios

Agreed.

Very timely – the Little Prince is due to upgrade from Rapid Fire for Rookies soon – sounds like V2 is the way to go – thanks for the advice!

Thanks all. I will give them a try out. I have become a little fed up with all the more recent rules set that have come out over the last few years. With the exception of CoC which really is historical recreation I find the newer rules just too much faf or hype over substance.

Ned:

They have a nice special on now… the rulebook along withe NW Europe scenario book. Both are excellent.

RF2 is a lot of fun to play and has better explanations of the rules.
