Looking for some recommendations for books on the uniforms (and kit) for soldiers of the War of the Austrian Succession and the Seven Years War. Favorite Ospreys, or other books by other publishers sought. Also, campaign books, guides to specific battles, etc. |

Osprey has a separate 3 volume set for both the Austrian and the Prussian Armies . All of the relevant detail seem to be there. It's all I've ever used in painting my figures with the single exception of the Saxon Chevauxleger at Kolin. |

The War of the Austrian Succession, A Wargamer's Guide- Several parts (volumes). I have Part VIII in front of me- Uniforms of the Italian States 1740-48) by Stephen Manley. There are many "Parts" available. For SYW, Look for Bill Bile's 3 volume set. Both series I got from On Military Matters. Very useful. |

Bonjour I have just published with Caliver Books the first volume on a 3 volume study of the French Army of the War of the Austrian Succession. the first volume covers a systematic listing of the régiments, cavalrie, Guarde, Dragoons, infantry & light troops, their uniforms, including musicians, arms, formation strengths and some orbats, plus 30 odd colour illustrations. The next volume will cover the colours, standards & Guidons, an illustration of both sides etc in colour all the drawings are finished, just ned to colour them. In the pipeline is the same study for the Piedmontese army, text finished, illustrations to do, followed by either the Spanish or British depending on research. David Wilson |

Thanks, all. Sources noted. Currently have the FtG's Allies in the SYW Osprey, with the FtG's Army Opsrey on order (I guess it was originally a single volume?), both from the library. I have my eye on those three-volume Prussian and Austrian Ospreys for a near-future purchase. There are so many engagements in this era one could possibly game. Kronoskaf is an excellent resource, and I now see that OMM has a great deal of material. Very interested in the other books mentioned, and will seek them out as well. As always, very appreciative of the many kind respondents willing to provide useful and informative replies. Cheers. |

The Osprey single-volume MAA #16 "Frederick the Great's Army" is one of the original releases from the 1970s, and is not very good. The more recent three volume "Frederick the Great's Army", MAA 236, 240, 248, is much better. |
