Silly question, I know, but which way up should these be? One side is smooth, the other side is slightly textured. Should the textured side be face down to help prevent the base from slipping on slopes, or should it be face up to help the material you're using on base adhere to the base's surface? (Sorry if I'm being a bit of a duh brain!) |

Its up to you, but I put the flat side down. It looks better. The slightly textured side does not prevent slipping anyway. |

I generally annotate things such as 'II/86 Ligne' on the bottom of my bases, so I keep the flat side on the bottom. ' I find the 'textured' side looks better on top, where I just paint it brown and I'm not worried if some of the flock comes off as it aids in the impresion of dirt showing through the grass. But as Puster points out, entirely your call! |

I don't have a sample to hand, but seem to recall that the smooth side had a slightly sharper edge, making them a little easier to grasp. If you're worried about elements being picked up by the base only, taht may make a difference? |

I put the smoother side down, because it adheres better to the magnetic sheet I put on all my figures. Also, the "sharper edge" that Musketeer refers to, strikes me as a slight bevel to the sides of the bases, and I prefer that the wider part of the bevel be on the ground. Mind you, we are talking about a fraction of a millimeter, most folks probably don't even notice this. |

Smooth side down it is then. Many thanks for your thoughts. |
