"Creative Digital in collaboration with Michael's Machines developed an electro-mechanical firearm trigger that can control the rate of fire for a semi-auto and automatic weapon.

The system is controlled through the use of a solenoid directed by a computer processors, explained Mike Otte, of Michael's Machines. The computer processor connects to multiple sensors to instruct the solenoid on a rate of fire or to disengage automatic fire if needed…"

Of course, there's been something like that for paintball for quite a while (yes, I know the actual "activation" mechanism is a bit different, but the thought process is the same).
