Hi, I am getting ready to paint up some of my pulp figures and I have a basing question. I've already based them on wooden bases but my question deals with what to do with the bases now? The time period and story line I'm going to run with is a 1930s era evil secret society and the heroes who stop them (hopefully). I don't want to flock the bases like I would for a historical battle but something more urban, I guess would be the term. What do you all do or don't do for your bases? |

Brown flock, which could be earth, carpet or a muddy street. |

I've started using clear plastic. |

I switched to clear bases for our Pulp Alley games. We knocked out a few hundred bases the other day, so I added some of the extra packs to our online store – store.pulpalley.com With my Ultra-Inviso bases -- no matter where you go, there you are!
Have fun

Wish I had asked this question before I had based them all. Those clear bases are pretty cool. |

Flat black. It is a bit abstract, but it is equally as abstract sneaking about the grounds of the manor as it is standing on the oriental rug in the library. |

"Ultra-Inviso". I love the name. Sounds like one of director William Castle's gimmicks. Remember "House on Haunted Hill" in "Emerge-O" and "13 Ghosts" in "Illusion-O"? |

OK, out with it--how do you affix the figures to the bases????? |
Pulp Alley | 09 Nov 2014 8:25 p.m. PST |
@ capncarp --- We use little tiny drops of superglue on both feet. First, lightly sand/file the bottoms of the feet so you have a nice flat surface and make sure there isn't paint on the bottom of their feet. Be careful not to use too much glue or it will fog the plastic. After I apply the glue, I dab the feet to pull off the excess glue, before sticking it on the base. @ The Shadow --- Indeed! Call these "Invis-O" bases. HAVE FUN Dave Pulp Alley |

This figures I have, have a strip connecting the feet together. Would you cut that off to use the clear bases? |

Yes, that is the technique Pulp Girl uses. She published a tutorial on the Pulp Alley forum: link Jim |

As for base colors I think about what surface or surfaces I will normally be playing on and then select paints to approximately match. Here is an example:
The above being said, I try to base each "gang" with a different color (which you can see above). I tend to use various tans, olives, greys, etc. . . . I want base colors that won't draw attention from the figures themselves and that will be bland enough to work with my various gaming gaming surfaces. By the way, I use hex bases for "gang members" and round pennies for NPC figures. -- Jeff

I have been intrigued by the use of clear bases for the obvious benefits for some time, but it was not until I followed this thread that I wrote to Litko to inquire about getting hexagonal bases. "B'hoys!" and other rules to come require specific facing, so simple round bases weren't enough. Not only did I get a reply within 24 hours, I was directed to their "BaseMaker" custom production service, and I already have 100 3/4" clear hexagonal bases en route! Better than that, I received letter from Jim Harmon with the following information of possible interest to others here: "No problem at all, I added .75, 1.0, 1.25, 1.5 and 2 inch hexagons to the new clear bases list. This will allow me to cover lots of game systems. I may not be able to release these until December." Talk about "Responsive to customer inquiries!" This is great news for me, and I should not be surprised if it's also true for many more. I hope Litko will be rewarded for their responsiveness with good sales of these and any of their other original products. TVAG |

I have always had great service from Litko and they are always my go to place for bases. |
