I thought members might be interested to learn about the co-production between Caledonia TV (on behalf of BBC Scotland) and Tile Films (on behalf of BBC Northern Ireland) entitled: 'Waterloo – The Soldiers' Stories' upon which I've been working recently.
The production will result in two one hour programmes which tell the story of the Irish and Scots during the Waterloo campaign, through the words of a number of real individuals present during the campaign. The accounts have been drawn from numerous sources, and there are several which are unpublished. Variations of the programme will be produced in Gaelic for broadcast by BBC Alba (in Scotland) and TG4 (in Ireland). I understand that international interest has been very strong and will almost certainly result in the finished programme being broadcast in North America and Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and other European countries.
A website for ‘Waterloo – The Soldiers' Stories' will be on-line early next year, and this will provide some insight into the content. Filming will take place in April 2015. CGI will be used for the larger battle scenes, and drama will be provided by actors, together with ‘real' soldiers dressed in contemporary uniforms. Naturally, I will provide more information and a link in due course. The programme is due to be broadcast in the United Kingdom on 18th June 2015.
Tile Films have been responsible for numerous historical dramas, while Caledonia TV were acclaimed for their recent programmes on Bannockburn and Lachlan Macquarie, who rose to govern the colony that would become Australia: link
