Last week the club gathered at Games Plus for another game of Kings of War. At 4,000 points per side, this 5-player battle was our largest game yet of KOW, and I'm pleased to report that the fast-playing ruleset once again gave a satisfying game replete with epic charges, heroic stands, brutal artillery barrages and deadly magical attacks. Here is the blog post with tons and tons of photos of the action: link And here are a few pics from the game:

Pretty cool stuff. You guys going to shift to the new edition next year? |

Dunno, haven't heard what all they plan to add in the next edition. Honestly there's so little to these rules that switching to a new edition will hardly tax our mental resources. As long as the PDF is free that is. :) |

We have been painting up masses of Orcs and Goblins for KOW,a very fun game. |

Great report! I've been itching to get back into fantasy Wargaming lately. I like KOW a lot but found I got just as much enjoyment out of Mighty Armies(in 28mm), but it's grand battles like this that are steering me back to KOW. -Edgar |

I think the new edition will mainly clear up a few things and bring the lists all into one book again. Still, I'd like to see the -1 to hit for moving and shooting removed and shifted to Reload! Missile units need a boost and I think moving into range and shooting should be a viable tactic for them. Also, crossbows and handgonnes are carried loaded and then fired so I've always felt that the inability to move and shoot them was bizarre in any game it's appeared in. |

I had the privilege of being the Chaos player in this game. Lots of fun even though had the distinction of losing by far the highest percentage of my units. I do agree with David above. Missile troops are pretty weak right now. I have a 10 and 20 man units of archers and they consistently under-preform every game. I'm going to add a rank of 10 pavises in order to quickly bulk the unit out to a 40 man "Horde" size base and see how they do, but they have been quite disappointing so far. Though the rules will be free, I will be supporting the KS for the rulebook. It's a game I really like and I am very pleased that they haven't gone the GW route of highly expensive rules and supplements. Plus I do like a nice shiny book and the current KoW book is very well done. |

Yes, I bought the hard cover rules recently and like the system. Something to do now with all the at present unused GW stuff. My son who went cold on GW has also read them and is finding some interest again. |
