I ordered five ACW miniatures from Dixon (how incredibly cost-ineffective to make a tiny overseas order, especially since shipping was about 33% of my order because of the minimum postage fee! but I really want to finish my Texans and will not use drummers), and they arrived fairly quickly in a thick envelope. It looked like the new postmaster (or perhaps a disgruntled customs official) bent the envelope in half at one point, but the minis were well-protected: three buglers in a small ziploc bag and wrapped with bubble wrap, and two standard bearers inside of individual thick cardboard sleeves taped together. The miniatures were not damaged at all, and I am incredibly satisfied with the results. My next order from them will be a larger order since the price-to-postage ratio was not very satisfactory.

Next time I will also have to ask for photographs of the minis I buy, because the two ACW141b (Bugler, sack jacket, leaning forward – in kepi) are definitely wearing shell jackets. It isn't an order mixup because the "141" is engraved on the bottom of the figures. It wouldn't be too big of a deal since (1) Dixon minis are supposed to be filled with character and these minis definitely are detailed and different, and (2) my ACW units are Texans so shell jackets in theory will work. However I needed the sack coats because one of my units is strictly sack-coated. And the caplock pistols they hold, while also unusual, will not really work since Texas was the testing ground of the Colt Walker and other early revolvers. They will work for now but at some point I will need to buy a bugler in a sack coat. The standard bearers are nice, and the (Bugler, open shell jacket, standing blowing bugle – in hat) looks great, but I will have to use him with my Germanic Texans instead of my Texians until I find a more suitable bugler down the road. I blame myself for not asking for photographs of the minis before buying.

I could try to convert the pistols in to revolvers with some putty…

Thanks for the report.

I've been considering ordering some Dixon 25mm AWI figures to finish off an incomplete battalion of American Continentals. I need about 12 more Dixon figures to field a 24-man battalion, but had hesitated due to the international postage expense.

The Dixon AWI figures are no longer available from their distributor in the U.S.A.

Caveat Emptor?

Rebelyell2006,

If you want to make a consumer point about a manufacturer don't whinge about shipping. That's something they can't control.

Other than Caveat Emptor.

I can't work out if you are pleased/satisfied/will never buy from them again.

It's probably me being hard of reading.

I'm pleased, except for the "sack jacket" buglers wearing shell jackets. I'll need medical/quartermaster/other brigade-level minis in the future, and Dixon will be my first choice for buying.

Dixon used to do a catalogue with line-drawings of all the figures in. I'm surprised they're not downloadable these days.

I just looked at one of their scanned catalogs and they made a typo on the online store, as the paper catalog reads "shelljacket". Oh well.
