Has anyone played these rules? Any reviews or thoughts? Seems the rules have been out a while now but can't seem to find any substantial reviews or comments on them.

There is reference to an online unit builder. Is that a necessity or can you "manually" build units.

I have the original version and have enjoyed it. D 10 based and unit cards giving figures special abolities. However there was a revision and u do not know how much changed.

Hopefully not too much. I suppose I need to just order it and see. :)

Demmed phone. Of course I meant to write that "I don't know what changed".

If you do ordered it please post your thoughts on the game.

Sid, I have played the rules and here are my thoughts:

Had potential to be a really fun game. The poor translation from Spanish to English, the typo's and lack of support is what finally convinced me to part ways with them. As of now there is no online builder for your units, something that was cool but very limited. When the builder was up you only had access to Pennisular War units. Hopes of seeing 1813-1814 builders never came about. Version 2.0 was simply showing the basing used in Napoleon's Battles as they were trying to encompass NB, NB division commander and Capitan in to one system.

Capitan had real potential, I hope someone else picks it up and gives it the support it deserves

Interesting. The original publication came with cards for all of the units, yes, limited to the Peninsular War as advertised. A few scenarios, including a cracking Cacabelos scenario, were posted on line.

A fine, self contained, game it was. Not my favorite, which considering I have written my own, is not a surprise.

My "gripe" is with all the special rules for special units ala Warhammer, which is a personal preference, and not a reflection on a fine game system.

@KBreck … so, without the online builder, is the game essentially dead and unplayable?

kbreck07 Nov 2014 2:16 p.m. PST

Sid, I think you could still game without the online builder but you will need to make up your own stat cards for each unit. If I am remembering correctly there is a sample unit card in the rulebook you could go off of. Also, google capitan skirmish scenario and you should find a blog that had @ a dozen or so scenarios I believe were from the original release.
I think at one point in time they released for sale cards for the 1813 campaign. Never could fine anyone who had them for sale.

So, apparently, Capitan will now become a revised rule set call Company Commander, with the online element removed.
