Wellington and Blucher manage to link their Armies up on the 16th of June. Ligny and Quatre Bras do not occur. What would Napoleon do if that happened? Aside from asking for parlay what were his tactical options? Where would you see him defending / fighting if he had to? |

I'd see him deploy and ready a counter punch, probably against the Anglo-Allied force. Any division would watched for and attempted to exploited |

He might try to get around the Anglo-Allied force cutting them off from the ports and try to taunt Wellington into either attacking him or at least opening a gap between them and the Prussians. He could not afford to either wait or be defeated, Audacity was his only friend. |

A more realistic alternative is that proposed by Clausewitz: What if Napoleon had continued after Blucher, brought him to battle again and destroyed him, what would Wellington then do? |

That would have been interesting. Wellington agreed to come to Blucher's aid if he was not attacked. He would not have put his army in jeopardy as Blucher did coming to Waterloo. Napoleon would probably have done as bad a job in keeping contact with the Prussians as Grouchy. The fight would have been at Wavre. IV Corps would have linked up with Wellington. Probably I-III Corps destroyed. Certainly interesting. Napoleon would have been troubled by large forces in his flank and rear. Stephen |
