A quickie review on my blog of the fast build plastic T-26 Model 1933 from Pegasus Hobbies:

Two (2) kits per box, fifteen parts to a tank, and well detailed. If you're in the States, they're available through Hobbytown USA and if you're in the Bay Area, Game Kastle carries Pegasus Hobbies kits, and can order these meat n' potatoes early Russian armor for you if the don't have 'em in stock.

Very nicely done! And they really are superb models, it's just a shame that they have the armor protection of a grilled cheese sandwich and life expectancy in game only slightly shorter than a politician's promise after election day.

If you're doing early Russian front, these are a must have (and lots of 'em) and don't forget their 45mm gun can handle the German and Czech stuff your opponent will throw at you without breaking into a sweat. Kudos to Pegasus for this one! Here's a couple of mine with some Orion Soviet Tank Crew on the work bench

Agreed on all fronts there, Numero Quatro! I am leaning with my next pair for Spanish Republican, or perhaps if my inner Dare to Die fanatic wins out, Kuomintang 200th Division as an excuse to start in on my Caesar Chinese assault troops…. the open hatch option is what makes the kit so much fun, as you can pose all sorts of crew figures in the turret, from Russians to Spanish Republicans waving patriotic banners or Nationalist Chinese brandishing Mauser pistols.

Very slick kit.evil grin

Great review, Leland! I am about to start getting my Barbarossa Soviet tanks together for Battlegroup so this (and the Minairons T-26 thread just above yours) are a huge help to me in deciding what brand to buy.

Do you happen to know if the hatches on the S-model open?

BlackWidowPilot Fezian08 Nov 2014 8:12 p.m. PST

Naz,

alas, I don't as I don't own any (yet). As I am going to need two of the radio command variants, I will be acquiring at least one box of the S-Model kits in the foreseeable future.

Between Miniarons for the twin turreted variant, Pegasus for the gun tanks, and S-Model for the command variants, it looks like anyone who wants to build an early Russian Army tank force is well covered in the light tank department.evil grin

Oh, and don't forget that Pegasus does a very fetching BT-7 and BA-6, while S-Model does the T-35 land battleship.

Now if somebody would do a fast build T-28 medium tank…. evil grin

Amen to that, brother! Eaglemoss do a nice T.28 in die cast metal; I took out a mortgage of five of them recently…..

Leland,
I was just looking through Battlegroup Barbarossa and in the modeling section they are working with an S-Model T-26. It does indeed have separate hatches on the turret.

Naz,

excellent. I have some of the classic Perry 20mm Russian tank crew figures and half figures just begging to be deployed in T-26 turrets… especially a TC waving a signal flag as he *tries* to relay to the rest of his company what the regimental HQ just told him to do by radio (and he's the only one in the company in a tank equipped with a radio set)…evil grin

No. 4,

I have three of the SHQ T-28s, great galumphing heavy-as-all-Hell white metal models that are closer to 1/76 than 1/72, and still they're big, lumbering, slab sided beasts by anyone's definition…. I have looked/leered at those same die casts you mentioned, and yes, they are indeed tempting, but for now, my old SHQ "armored cruisers" will have to try and hold the line against the Panzerwaffe until I finish my T-26 and BT-7 hordes…

P.S. If you want a REALLY heavy tank model, I have an old Skytrex 20mm T-35 all metal kit. I could use it as the basis for a boat anchor it weighs so much!evil grin

Good grief, I have a T.35 that's basically a slab of resin with a few notches cut into it (picked up in a package deal years ago) and that's heavy enough!

Yikes! That is a slab of resin! Well, S-Model has a two-in-one kit now… just saying'….evil grin
