I made the statement that the Battle of Riachuelo (June 1865) was the only fleet action of all steamships at which there were no ironclads. The guy who challenged me couldn't think of any other examples, but it got me thinking. What say you, fellow TMPers? |

From here: link "The Battle of Riachuelo is the largest non-armored, steam power battle in naval history and pitted the professional modern Brazilian Navy against the improvised Paraguay squadron." Seems to be the largest in history but not necessarily the only one. |
