This figure is from the light infantry battalion command pack from the Perry brothers. I'm fairly new to the Napoleonics world, and am working up some skirmish forces. I have the old Osprey on the Brunswickers, but I'm not finding an exact reference for whatever this figure is representing.
Could someone shed some light on what the figure is? I'm guessing it's some sort of sergeant, but I'm in the dark as to how the figure is supposed to be painted, beyond the image on the Perry site. Perhaps someone has a link to a plate? Thanks in advance! Tim |

He is most likely an office of either the infantry or the light infantry. Many wore that style of prussian hat, after 1813. More exports will confirm and or add to this reply, hopefully. I wish my 15s came with some of these chaps. MG |

Thanks, Greg. Yes, he's definitely light infantry-he comes from their command pack set of minis. The thing that made me think he might be a sergeant is the lack of the broad waist sash. But that was just a guess on my part. I didn't even know that was a Prussian style hat, so thanks for that info! |

I also think he is intended to be an officer. The following plate is from the Mont St Jean website and shows officers in a similar uniform: link link |

Hmmm…right you both are! Thanks for the link to the plate. Looks like he's an officer over the rank of Captain, but below General. And he's scantily clad! That's according to the Google translation of en petite tenue, anyway. |

The cap was actually a popular style throughout Europe and especially in Germany. You would have seen similar in Hannover, Saxony, Russia (officers) the Netherlands etc. |

One can see why. It's very jaunty. |

He's yelling to the Duke at Quartre Bras to duck. |

"en petite tenue" – in undress (uniform) It's rare to find a pun that works in both languages… |
