Very nice – but would it be U.N.I.T. in Victoria's time? I thought the UN bit was United Nations. Perhaps it would be a Torchwood offshoot, as I seem to remember that Vicky set that up.

Glad you like them my friend.

Yep. UNIT formed in the 2nd Dr's time (1960s). Must be Torchwood.

That's from me (thanks Tango01)

Yes, whilst making up the company I realised that the UNIT timeline was a bit out of line (by at least 70 years). Torchwood was founded in the correct time period (1879) but with their remit of exploiting alien tech to defend the British Empire I had my doubts if The Doctor would be able (or willing) to closely work with them, so I plumped for UNIT. I'm mid AAR write-up at the moment, as the company battle in the Wild West town of Obsession to retrieve the vital components from a strange automoton ;)

I may have to come up with a different acronym for a Victorian version (or be lazy as the current writers and just say they came in the TARDIS). Any suggestions welcome.

cheers

It might be fun to make them a time-travelling UNIT special forces team. Their brief would include going on manoeuvres in places where something has happened; influencing the extension of infrastructure to avoid things better left undisturbed; nicking artefacts or inventions that want covering up; all whilst remaining out of the public eye, so that no inquiries are sent to Horse Guards.

Indeed a good fluff plan, Robert. You can see them popping up to foil an earlier Pyramids of Mars plot, for example, or a Master inspired London Brick Street revolution.

In fact their first mission was to whisk away crucial cyberman tech before a Cowboy gang got hold of it: link

I did have reservations on the Doctor letting UNIT troops into the TARDIS, but in the last series it's almost been an open house!

And I'm old-fashioned enough to wish the Gallifreyans would keep the monopoly on the the whole travel business. They ARE Lords, mind you.

I'd rather have United Nations Intelligence Taskforce be the latest incarnation of an ancient, honorable, and quite hush-hush organization, perhaps even predating Torchwood.

Can somebody come up with an appropriate Latin phrase to make into UNIT? Perhaps Old English?

I agree with the arabianknight about the latest series. I'm expecting to see a turnstile in place of the door and the Dr out front selling tickets.

Thank you for doing this as seeing this has caused a penny to drop for me and I've finally found and painted my own 15mm Dr.
He's the fellow from the Rebel Minis Pulp 15mm characters set. The one I couldn't think of anything to do with and was the weakest in the set. The one with the Fez. Now my most favourite.

Cut his gun away, give him a rod and a bowtie. Now he's amongst a Wild West town with a RAFM Astronaut and a Kremlin minis Zomborg roaming around outside the town limits. With his constantly ever present "Voice of Reason" Aimee Fyre.

Many thanks for your work.

Maybe instead of the same troops getting on the Tardis bus, there could be sleeper "UNIT" operatives all over the place in Deep Cover. But with full powers over a local body of troops to be enacted with the extraordinary situation arises.
The agent is usually an mid-level adjutant who will only activate on meeting/or hearing the super-secret-alpha-one code word "the Doctor."

Thanks, deflatermouse.

Nice idea about the 15mm. I'm just starting to take tiny steps into this scale myself so good to have a bit of a guide to my favourite topics.

RocketPatrol05 Dec 2014 5:33 p.m. PST

Hmm. A detachment of Her Majesty's forces seconded to Torchwood called the Unearthly Nations Interventionist Troop?

A second battle has been fought now: link

The Doctor got to light up his Sonic Screwdriver this time.
