Hello. Just read Caulaincourt's superb 1812 memoirs, and posted a review of them on my blog: link They were cited by Adam Zamoyski in the recent 'i2' (intelligence squared) debate, between Zamoyski and Andrew Roberts, chaired by Paxo, that went under the title of Roberts' recent book 'Napoleon The Great'. Roberts was championing the pro-side, in line with his books title, with Zamoyski arguing the con-side. On balance I feel that Caulaincourt's memoirs, despite all the criticisms he makes of his boss (his loyalty to Napoleon making for a different and perhaps even stronger testimony?) better served Roberts' side of that debate! I hope some of you might find this of interest? Regards, Seb. |
