So I picked this up at Goodwill today. It's huge and missing alot of pieces (notably the canopy, half the bulkhead roof and other hatches and weapons) but simply for kitbash purposes, I couldn't pass it up at $10. USD The figure for scale is a 28mm West Wind cop.
What would you do with such a thing? In case your suggestion would be replacement parts, I've already checked with Hasbro and they are no longer available. Right now I'm leaning toward dis-assembling it and making some sci-fi terrain with it, but I'd love to hear what kind of ideas it inspires in others. |

Leave it as is, as a terrain piece, to play out boarding actions. Make a canopy out of a wooden dowel, sanded down, and cut to fit. Use styrene to make some other parts, like the top of the fuselage, etc. |

I would say don't dis-assemble it. Seems like you could somehow make it into some sort of ship. It's 28mm sized. I haven't seen any at that scale. I'm sure someone on these forums can offer ideas. |

Yea, you could make a wreck of it as well, with smoke streaming out of the open areas to cover their non-existence. Add in a few flashing, battery-powered, button lights, to represent flames, underneath the fireball/smoke. Alternatively, flip it upside down to represent a crashed spacecraft. |

Thanks for the advice folks. I checked the auctions, but couldn't find any parts for this limited "Deluxe Edition". I considered making a whole (ruined or intact) ship out of it, but it's almost 3 feet long. I went ahead and took it apart though I left the spaceship intact. This thing is a wonderland of bulkheads and greebling panels and it disassembles fairly easy with a multitude of screws. I also managed to remove the electronics (which still work) entirely intact, so I'll probably give them to a buddy of mine that does alot of custom light and sound stuff with LEGO. Tomorrow I'll take a picture of how this thing broke down. I could build an entire spaceport out of this thing. I'm thinking a number of open front market stall kind of buildings with rounded overhanging roofs. I'll probably build a smaller crashed spaceship as well. |

Here's the disassembled pics. The tiles are 12" squares.
Plus some smaller bits. I think I'm going to start by making a gateway from the prow sections. |

use the saucer section for a 15mm space station, cockpit for an airlock system… |

It has all sorts of possibilities but, you know it occurs to me that the model IS more or less in proportion with one of the effects models from The Empire Strikes Back that I was lucky enough to get a look at a few years back. |

If it were mine I would: Fist, ink wash it inside and out and use the body for skirmish games & boarding actions. As long as the parts are reasonably easy to remove I would flatten some air dry clay and press the engine bits and other parts suitable for wreckage into it, then remove them the parts and allow the clay to dry (it would help to wiggle them a bit to create larger gaps which will be necessary in order to allow for shrinkage of the clay while drying & to allow the parts to be inserted & removed again). Then add whatever flock &tc is needed to make the clay suitable for terrain. Insert the wreckage when there is a need for wreckage and reattach it to the ship when it's not needed. Also consider keeping the lights. See how the thing looks on a table in a dark room with only the model's lights turned on. It might look fabulous for games set during night or in space. Just my two cents/pence. |
