Dear all,
I have looked in Google in vain for information on the uniforms etc. of the French Army in 1823 during the Spanish Expedition. DEtaille's book suggests that they were in the traditional colours of blue for infantry and artiller, green for Chasseurs and Dragoons, and the usual mixture for Hussars, with dragoons in a crested helmet, but no more detail than that. Can anybody help, or point me in the right direction please? thanks

There are about 13 plates in a section of John Elting's "Napoleonic Uniforms," volume II, entitled "Royal Army (1814-1830)." Most of the plates are for the 1814-16 time period, but there's one for 1820 (a voltigeur of a light legion) and another for 1830 (1st Swiss of the Guard). I can't tell that any of these plates would help with the Spanish Expedition specifically, but they are in the ballpark.

Haythornthwaite and Chappell's "World Uniforms and Battles 1815-50" also has a handful of plates depicting French soldiers around this time – but again, I didn't see anything specifically relating to the Spanish Expedition. I suspect this volume might be more helpful to you.

And did you try this site?
