Still some filing and touch-up work to do, but excited to have got this far building this gun out of miscellaneous pieces from a 54mm scale screw gun, several different diameters of brass tubing and a gun carriage for a 24 pounder from Perry's ACW range. This was my first attempt at building something like this but I couldn't find any manufacturers who made one. It may not be 100% accurate but I think it projects the feel of the gun.

Even though they were not based for the job, some of the troops decided to test fire the gun. Seemed to work okay.

Nice work. Great to see someone build what cannot be found, instead of moping about. |

Fully agree with Ragbones & Joe Fish, very nice Work, Bob! It looks good and it looks the part! The ground or hilltop in that last pic looks great also! Do you plam to customize a couple more 40-pounders for a full battery or will it be a one-off? |

Your Madness,I have enough parts to build another gun, which I will do next. I had no idea how I was going to build it but jumped in and over the course of a series of short sessions got it done.Luckily while rummaging I found 2 models of 54 mm scale screw guns I had. The screw assembly at the rear of the barrel is actually the screw mechanism from the 54mm gun that was used to raise and lower the elevation. It was just the right size to use at the end of the barrel in 28mm. I luckily kept those parts as I was going to throw them away as useless. The hill used to be one of my youngest son's Playmobil plastic hills that I sprayed with glue and dipped in sand from one of the bags you can buy to weight the back of a pick up down in snowy weather for better traction. The sand in them is very coarse and has both large and small grains. A lot of sand at a cheap price.I painted it a cocoa color all over and then dry brushed with linen and maybe another color. Did it a long time ago so can't quite recall all the details. Glued some rocks on top of it as well. |

Got them both done now except for filing down the barrels a little at the end because they did not cut evenly when I sawed them off. Still hoping their is a manufacturer out there who will make the same s guns in a more accurate manner in 25/28mm.
