I have recently purchased RFF and I am trying to work out how many stands per command/unit. Do I divide the OOB as I see fit or are they fixed per battalion, if so how where is this shown? |

It's 40 men per stand, so you just divide the number of fighting men in the historical order of battle to get the number of stands per regiment. When we're doing something non-historical, we tend to go with 10 stands per infantry regiment-one for each company. I'm pretty sure the rules say that a 10 stand regiment is "average," but there's no hard and fast number to go by. |

Each unit is shown as a black label in the scenario. It might have, at the bottom something like 16/12/8 (e.g. the 15th Maine in the Balls Bluff scenario on page 71). This would mean the unit starts off with 16 stands and this is when it counts as fresh. Once it is depleted to 12 bases it counts as worn and at 8 bases it becomes spent. This is also explained under unit effectiveness on page 9. Dave |

I use the points system that was added to the fire and fury site. I don't allow both sides to pick their own units though. At most I might have three envelopes with different unit composition but the same number of points. One envelope would have experienced troops. The next envelope would have low experience but more troops or extra artillery. The third would be somewhere in between. Dave |

I'm glad you brought up that points system, Dave. I had no idea it existed! |
