"A vanguard force of Iraqi peshmerga troops entered the embattled Syrian border town of Kobani from Turkey on Thursday, part of a larger group of 150 fighters that the Kurds hope will turn back an offensive by militants of the Islamic State group. The deployment, accompanied by 50 members of the Free Syrian Army, was condemned by Syria's government as an act of Turkish aggression and a "blatant violation of Syrian sovereignty." The first group of Kurdish fighters crossed into Syria following heavy overnight clashes as Islamic State extremists unsuccessfully tried to capture the frontier post, the only gateway in and out of the town. Kobani is under attack by the militants from three sides despite weeks of airstrikes by a U.S.-led coalition…" Full article here link Also… link Amicalement Armand |

Well … as always GHQ has pretty much what you'd need to game such a battle. Their 3rd World Warrior and Modern Armor ranges should work. link The rub could be how to ID ISIS, the FSA, and the Kurds, from either Syria or Iraq on the gaming board. A mix of their Muj and Sub-Saharan Irregulars could work for ISIS. GHQ's Brushfire Warriors and 3rd World Regulars could work for Kurds and FSA. The Brushfire figures have some figs wearing berets. I've seen Kurd with berets and helmets … And they make Mid East Civilians for ISIS to commit their predilection for and inevitable war crimes … |

Fly trap town. Interesting strategic game aspect. How to take without big losses from air strikes, how to diplomacy the Turks, air drops and get in relief. |

Well since the ISIS are massing to take Kobani, it certainly makes the a good/bigger target. At this point it is all that can be done about ISIS is attrite as many as possible and often as possible. That seems to be the only near term solution, it appears. Short of letting them ride wildly on their jihadist caliphate tour of the region. |
