Thinking about doing some of these figures. Anyone have a suggestion of a good company for 15mm? Prefer metal, but could go plastic. Thanks TMP

I have NKE from Chariot and Essex, I like them very well and they're compatible. I also have an OKE DBA army from Chariot.

Museum Miniatures has a good range of NKE – link

Chariot and Essex are both very nice and compatible, but Chariot is a little on the delicate side. Museum is nice but closer to an 18mm size, maybe a little taller than the other two.

If you don't mind the chunky style, Black Hat's ex Gladiator Old/middle Kingdom range are beautifully sculpted link

My preference has always been Magister Militum's Chariot range but the best actual chariots in made this scale were Falcon – no idea if you can actually get them though.

Essex chariots (and horses FWIW) are far too big (both scalewise and actually to fit on the generic 15mm bases)

I was also going to do 15mm NKE -- anyone got any comments on the Old Glory figures?

For Chariot Age, I prefer the Magister Militum figures: link

Their horses are appropriately small. During that period — diet of oats and related exercise programs hadn't been developed yet. Essex' horses are gigantic for the early period, and Old Glory even moreso.

In normal circumstances I would have pointed out the Venexia NKE range:

However it is presently OOP awaiting the new owners to re-release them.

Sadly, I only have six packs left – chariots (4) and scouts (2) – so only of use to people looking for commanders, small units or bulking out existing armies.

Some good suggestions here but how ancient would you like them?

LorenzoMele31 Oct 2014 3:58 a.m. PST

Black Hat are the best.

I just did an Essex NKE army:

I liked them, the chariots needed a lot of carving though.

Essex re-did some of their 15mm NKE sculpts not too long ago and also expanded the line.

reminds me that I need to get rid of some biblical 15's….

Were those Falcon Figures or Falcon Miniatures, Yesthatphil?

Quartermaster in the US is apparently still in business with the Falcon Figures lines -

Hadn't been at their site for a week or two and it appears that they are making some changes, but they still list the Egyptians.

P.S. They raised prices a while back on some lines. However, the NKE at least are still showing the old prices.

Yes … those are they, goragrad – thank you for tracking them down (visibility has been a little patchy at times):idiosyncratic and a little dated perhaps, they are very nice figures and paint up a treat. I have the Scythians and some of the Biblicals.

The chariots are the closest I found to reconstructed Late Bronze Age chariots. So … small, like MM/Chariot, and they do just about fit on a 40x40 base.

I do accept that some enthusiasts like the huge Venexia/Essex style chariots (pics above), don't mind that the originals didn't look like that – and are prepared to live with the fact that they overhang the bases but those compromises have never really suited me.

Just my take, of course wink

Posted last year but well worth another look.

Not a problem Yesthatphil. I have nearly every 15mm manufacturer bookmarked. Picked up a lot of lead on ebay that was described as – '15mm gallic warriors,' or some other rather generic term. Once pictures started becoming common on manufacturer sites i checked them out to see what I actually had.

As to the OP, I have quite a few Chariot/Magister Militum/Stone Mountain Biblicals and rather like them. I have had to do some epoxy work on some as they broke at the ankles, but have had to do that with other figures as well.

As soon as I get some sand on the bases I have some Early Bedouins I plan to shoot and post. Mayhap tomorrow.

They sure dressed those horses beautifully:
