When I was a kid my dad built some ace tanks with a buddy of his. In an attempt – successful so far I'm glad to say – to rekindle warmly nostalgic memories in the face of the increasingly cold autumnal nights, and to spend some quality father-&-son time – we're not getting any younger (me in my 40s, my father in his 60s!) – we decided to build some model tanks together. I bought him a King Tiger, and myself a Panther, both Airfix, laid in some paints, etc. And off we go. I make no claims to any skill – neither of us has made models for over 20 years! I've posted about it on my blog, here: link Hope it might be of interest to some of you WWII guys. I normally stick to Napoleonics. But you know how it is… you get the itch for something else, and you can't help yourself! Cheers Sebastian |

Looks like a fun diversion. Great you got to spend some time with your dad. |

The results aren't as important as the journey! Great story. |

My dad passed when he was only 50 (in 1983) what I'd give to be able to do this with him. |

Ah, the Airfix Panther. Every bit as bad as their Tiger I, but I still have three of them in my Panther box. But they only play when I run out of Dragon ones. Normal polystyrene cement never works on those old rubber band tracks. I resorted to metal staples applied by hand, ensuring that the join was on the bottom track run. The result was usually invisible, especially if the tank was based. I enjoyed reading your blog and look forward to further posts. Thank you. |

Great thing to do! I'm sure your Dad's enjoying it too. Well done, sir. |

Sounds like fun! If my dad and I lived closer together, I'd suggest that he and I do something like this. Dad would probably want me to reciprocate by my learning to play Bridge! |

I've started making model tanks with my daughter. She's five so we stick to Zvezda 15mm models which are easy for her to do. I have to help with the construction sometimes but she always paints them herself and in her own style. Hence the latest addition is a pink Matilda 2! |
