I hate to stir this up (again?), but I have never really understood why GW / Gav Thorpe – hates / dislikes / is prejudiced against / does not care about / ignors (pick your favorite) the Black Templars. They appear to have gone from their own Codex (which I liked) to being almost an after thought with the new edition of 40K. Does anyone have the real story on this or do we only have speculation? My son and I would like to know. |

I think that different marine chapters fall in and out of favour with some being sort of permanent, like the Space Wolves, Dark Angels and Blood Angels. You have the Black Templars, the Salamanders, the Raven Guard and a few others that come and go in terms of the focus placed on them. I leave out the Ultramarines because in some ways they are the most generic specified chapter and are basically mostly vanilla. I'm sure the Templars will come into favour again some day. If you like the codex why not play the edition where it was legal or just adapt the newest edition wtih a few rules to make the generic marines more Templar-like. |

The current SM codex already has special rules to make a more Black Templar appropriate army (although I am not very impressed with the rules…) Damon. |

There's a 6th/7th ed supplement for the Imperial Fists. As one of its two major successor chapters, the Templars should be in that one – methinks. And I don't think Gav Thorpe is in games development or writing codexes anymore. |

The closest thing Gav is doing these days are novels. Damon. |

Do not buy the Imperial Fists supplement if you are looking for any Templars material. It only deals with the Imperial Fists…and the one specific company (the 3rd company I believe) at that. |
