"the remake of British 70's sitcom DAD'S ARMY and now, with the movie production already under way, we have the first photos with the stellar cast which includes Catherine Zeta Jones, Bill Nighy, Michael Gambon and Toby Jones! The hilarious comedy follows a provincial British Home Guard in 1944 as they ready themselves to invade France at the height of World War II. As they spend their days, mostly doing nothing productive, their laziness is interrupted by the arrival of the sassy and mysterious female journalist into their town" From Hollywood Spy.

Hmmmm. I hope it works but it has high standards to reach. |

It won't matter how good it is it will always lose in comparison with the original. Best left alone IMHO. |

Especially the bit about them readying themselves to invade France in 1944. If that is the case, I'll be looking forward to the sequel "Saving Private Pike"… |

Not sure about this one! Dads army is part of British culture so it will be difficult for them to remake it without people comparing it to the original, and I'm not sure how it will appeal to new audience's! but you never know it might just surprise us all. |

Will wait and see with this one. As everybody says, it's got a seriously hard act to follow. |

Surely the whole point of Dads Army is that they were ready to fight a German invasion of Britain! It will definitely not work if they are "preparing to invade France"……. |

Without bothering to persue this one by following any links, I think that the relevant parts of the quote were: "The hilarious comedy" – how do they know? have they seen it? "sassy and mysterious female journalist" - seriously. Sassy? "ready themselves to invade France at the height of World War II" - I'm guessing that the minion who is writing this has no firm grasp whatsoever of anything that went on before they were born (ie befre 1990) and/or doesn't appear on x-factor. And the fact that it's penned by someone who goes by the nome de plume "Hollywood Spy" says all you need to know. Are we so bereft of new ideas that, as a culture, we consume our selves and then excrete it as garbage? I guess we are. John T |

Another Hollywood attempt that misses the point. By 1944 the Home Guard was pretty much at a stand still, and demobed in December. The real comedy is to be found in the early days of the war, with pending nazi invasion (not really funny but a good background) |
