The club had an excellent first game with these rules yesterday. Made 2 changes, for the initial movement we used a small brigade deck until the armies got close, then we switched to the regular card deck. Second, we used 2 turn end cards, both add to be pulled for the turn to end. Probably the most enjoyable ECW game that we've had in years! I highly recommend these rules. Everyone has started to rebase. A few pics

Are you rebasing per the rules? The game looked nice. |

Hey John, Yes most of us will be rebasing the infantry per the rule suggestion. Though we will probably keep the cav on 50x50mm bases 2 each. |

It's one of my favorites too and wonderful for solo play. |

I set out a few units to try them out a couple months ago. I really liked how they played. I am looking forward to trying them out with others. |

I will echo Mr. Warner's comment on solo play. When I was on chemotherapy I had virtually no endurance. But I was able to play "Victory Without Quarter" as a solo game . . . with a couple of tweaks. I had no ECW troops to use but I did have some earlier Renaissance troops . . . so I set the battle between a pair of 16th century Imagi-Nations. I also got a couple of my "net friends" to act as opposing generals. I would post them the situation and they would email me their orders. This worked wonderfully . . . and the uncertainty as to which card would turn next was wonderfully exciting. Anyone wishing to take a look at the three battles fought out this way may check my "Alpian Wars" blog (and as always with blogs, start at the oldest post and work forward): alpianwars.blogspot.ca In many ways I think that VWQ works even better as a solo game than a face-to-face one . . . except that the camaraderie is missing. -- Jeff

In many ways I think that VWQ works even better as a solo game than a face-to-face one . . . except that the camaraderie is missing I have never played these rules, but have played some Pike n Shote with friends who play 10mm ECW. I think that first person friendship, is the real 'key' to the joy of wargaming. Its being with like minded FRIENDs for a cpl of hours of fun and fellowship, as they say in church. I wish you the very best with your health issues as well. God be with you. Jack |

I must say that one of elements that made that gameday "great' was having several players who were helping with the rules. Often I set up and run the new games. That day I had one player skimming the 'melee' section whenever there was a question over the rules. Another did the same with the morale section and another with the firing section. |
