I have always found Wings of War a bit fiddly when the minis overlap each other and they are prone to be nudged and knocked over. So, I was wondering if anyone has modded WOW to use hexes, or if there are other rules sets that will allow me to use the WOW minis, but in an I-GO-YOU-GO format. I don't like written rules and simultaneous movement either as occasionally I like to solo.

Thanks in advance.

two fat lardies – bag the hun, not quite i go u go but card driven allows for some randomness especially in solo play

Bag the Hun looks like it's WW II, not WW I, right?

Why don't you just convert the movement cards to hex based movement.

I probably will. I just wanted to see if anyone had already done it.

Algernon is the TFL's WWI air combat game. I think it is currently being re-developed. The new and improved version is due for release soon.

Better off using Blue Max, Canvas Eagles.

Mako1126 Oct 2014 12:54 p.m. PST

Yea, Canvas Eagles, but they are "written rules".

Aren't they simultaneous movement with written orders? As I said in my opening post, I want I-Go-U-Go.

Any idea when the rules will be released? From the photos it looks like "Angels 20", which would be fine by me, as I like A20.

They are simul, but there's no reason you couldn't change that, and just have people pick from the maneuver chart, after the other person has moved, to ignore the written orders.

That will unbalance them a bit, but is easy to do.

I'd recommend some sort of "advantaged" die rolling though, to determine who moves first in those cases, with the better pilot/tailing pilot, faster aircraft, higher aircraft, getting to move after the disadvantaged one.

The die roll will also permit the occasional "disadvantaged" pilot to move last, if he gets lucky, or makes a skilled maneuver.

Otherwise, the disadvantaged pilot will probably be hosed in short order.

I am still waiting on the new addition of Algernon. Really like the original, just can't get the rules any more. Sometime… in the next 30 yrs, I want to get all may WoW/G out and use Algernon to put on demos.

Simple way of resolving the overlap problem.
If it looks like its going to happen replace the model with the plane card for that phase.
