I admit I've a few projects on the go and here is the humble beginnings of a Indian Army
I've 3more to do so this is just the start. I've not based it yet but I've still to decide on how I'm going to finish the bases. So thanks for looking Cheers Russ |

What scale/size is this? I suspect it is 28mm. I looked at 1st Corps website and I could not find a reference to size or scale. |

Its 28mm, its a nice piece and goes together real nice. |

Nice figure but a pity it is not 25mm. I am still adding to my 'old school' ancients collections and I'd like a few more elephants. |

How big of 28mm is that? Black Tree Design size? Wargames Factory size? It is just CRAZY trying to find figures from different manufacturers that look right together on the table. |

So do I. What about size compatibility ? |

Nice job. 1st Corps upgraded their elephants awhile back. They are better detailed for Indian elephants. They are however very large for their mostly 25mm figures.. in fact I think they need riders the size of Vendels to look correct… however there are few 28mm models available that have everything right.. SHQ (Newline) has nice but boring elephants with trunks that are too thick… takes some work to fix that… hopefully soon I will show a conversion. Some nice crew figures but as often with Newline- toy soldier poses.. not much action. Sergeant Major (Vendel) has a nice elephant marred only by an incredibly gallumpy pose… but the detail is there. Crew detial is sparse and the poses ho hum. These 1st Corps as I said an improvment over the old ones which looked like an African elephant. But their sizer makes them larger than life. Crew details is good. Old Glory has serviceable elephants, that are a bit on the small side, but they have great crews. If Old glory only flattened the ears a bit and made them less round.. Of course Aventine has the best elephants and one could try to convert their blanketed beast.. but their figures are largish as well… so one could put a Vendel crew on an Aventine.. sound like a project to me!!. Or maybe Aventine might just come out with an Indian Elephant for the SOA gameday… nudge.. |

Just a quick note since you plan of making more.. the goad was not a spear.. that's a hooked prod to control the elephant. You have it as a jevelin… You can see my goads here: ancientbattles.com Some are scratch built since store bought ones are often bulky and they are usually very light. Indians often used trident spears and javelins too.. so if that is what you are depicting, then disregard my comment. |

a further note.. as you probably all saw this: link It is so sad that the best Indian figures are still only in 15mm… Eurocentric rules no doubt :) |

Thanks for all the info guys its all gratefully recieved, its created a talking point which is always good and useful info wise. JJartist, my goad "driver" as I called him really showed my ignorance on that, carries both a javelin and a hooked prod. I can't see the photos I'm posting for some strange reason so I'm not sure if its a bad photo or not so I'm posting a second picture
hopefully this one will show it better. Punkrabbit returns I guess your question has already being answered about comparisons. In a lot of cases its not always the scale that causes the problem but sculpting style can make a massive difference. I do try and stick to the same company if possible. Like I said its a learning curve for me, I'm straying more and more out of my comfort zone with new projects, so thanks again for all the info and feedback Cheers again Russ |
