Hello I'm writing a series of 6 posts on the UK Television programme, from 1978, called 'Battleground'. The 6th and final episode of this series, the first (as far as I know) to present the hobby of wargaming to the public in any depth or detail, was a re-fight of Gettysburg. The Gettysburg episode was arguably the most impressive, in terms of figures and scenery.
My blog post can be found here: Battleground '78 – Gettysburg My main TMP thread about this series of posts is here: TMP link
This is the most heavily illustrated of my posts about Battleground (some samples below), 'cause the game was so photogenic. Sadly the video stills are pretty poor. But I think (or should that be hope?) this might add a certain patina of antique charm.
I hope people might enjoy this? I enjoyed finding out about the series and researching it. I hope one day, if a suitable source survives, it might be dusted off and made public. Cheers Seb |

In "The Movie Callan"(1974) Staring Edward Woodward. There is a large Gettysburg game that is part of the plot near the end. The Gettysburg game went on tour, I remember seeing it at Northern Millitare in the mid 70s, it was a beautifully put together and a very big game for it's day, It is so long ago I hope my memory is not playing tricks on me ? |

Peter Hinchcliffe was the adviser on the film Callan. There was an article about it in the 'Hinchcliffe Handbook' if anyone can remember that far back! Wonder where my copy is now! |
