Several days ago, Editor Bill asked if members would be interested in a TMP sponsored Blog mechanism that allows members to create their own blog.

The response was overwhelmingly positive, so, I was wondering if our editor will now take steps to make it a reality. If yes, what is the approximate target date for implementation?

MajorB25 Oct 2014 7:21 a.m. PST

He said it was a possible feature in TMP 4.0. Don't hold your breath …

raylev325 Oct 2014 7:43 a.m. PST

It'll take time, but I'm sure it will come.

duncanh25 Oct 2014 8:07 a.m. PST

Early next year. TMP 4.0.

I missed the original message. So would be be able to transfer information from existing blogs or have to recreate the wheel?

"overwhelmingly"??? where?

John the OFM25 Oct 2014 8:35 a.m. PST

If one does not have a blog already, why would one want to have it under the aegis of TMP?

duncanh25 Oct 2014 8:40 a.m. PST

I would!

What happens if you get banned? Does your blog go away? Not that anyone's planning to get banned, mind you, but these days do seem to be strewn with frivolous-rule and random-interpretation landmines.

Winston Smith25 Oct 2014 9:30 a.m. PST

It does give one concern.

duncanh25 Oct 2014 9:31 a.m. PST

Well, web cache obviously @starfuryXL5. Or Cloud?

I'm not sure how it works yet, but my guess is that if you lose your Supporting Member status, you would be unable to make changes or additions to your blog.

Another reason to have your own blog separate from TMP.

skippy000125 Oct 2014 2:06 p.m. PST

This could work for people like me that doesn't normally blog. I could either contribute to this site with concise, innovated insight or be a complete blithering idiot. I like that.

general btsherman25 Oct 2014 2:59 p.m. PST

Sounds good to me.

Giving someone else the ability to screw over your blog if they don't agree with you? I don't think so.

Oh Bugger25 Oct 2014 5:17 p.m. PST

Hard to disagree with that.

Skeptic25 Oct 2014 5:33 p.m. PST

UW2,OB: +1

Nevertheless, some TMP-linked blog network might be an option.

I presume the blogs would be themed on wargaming topics, if they are hosted here.

I don't think that this is going to be a good idea……

kreoseus226 Oct 2014 4:04 a.m. PST

What could possibly go wrong…

AcrylicNick26 Oct 2014 7:27 a.m. PST

Well, I'm not really looking forward to Chortle's blog about "Grand Jewish Conspiracies" …

David Manley26 Oct 2014 1:25 p.m. PST

I can imagine a few people liking this but to be honest its something I'd keep well clear of. I am aware of other wargaming sites that offer blogging facilities and the takeup (from what I've seen, YMMV) is pretty low.

Oh Bugger27 Oct 2014 4:55 a.m. PST

What sites are those David? I'd like to take a look.

David Manley27 Oct 2014 11:01 a.m. PST

The main ones I'm thinking of are the Wings of Glory Aerodrome and the related Sails of Glory Anchorage

Oh Bugger28 Oct 2014 11:44 a.m. PST

Thanks for that.

I am aware of other wargaming sites that offer blogging facilities and the takeup (from what I've seen, YMMV) is pretty low.

I think there will be at least two advantages:

First, the possibility of your blog being seen by a lot more people, since it will be seen on the TMP homepage.

Second, the possibility of a lot more feedback, since it will be more convenient for TMP'ers to comment right on TMP, using their TMP memberships.
