Why is it that when I see a picture of a painted MDF model with the interlocking corners, the ends are a dark brown color and not painted to match the rest of the building? Thanks, Greg |

I would guess that the paint is applied to the MDF sheet first and then the laser cut is made, producing the brown edge. There is doubtless some technical reason it is done like that! |

I'd guess painting after the cuts are made would be too difficult as the pieces would fall apart. Instead, they are spray painted before cutting so using a mask with whole MDF sheets, it is very efficient. Once cut most of these kits kinda crumble with any handling. |

Cerdic & ExtraCrisp guess correctly The MDF sheets are pre-coloured prior to cutting The ends are a dark brown colour from the laser cut I have several of the 4Ground buildings and I paint the ends to match their surroundings. Just make sure the paint is not too wet |

For those of us in the UK who have 4Ground stuff, go to the Works and look for "Anitas all purpose acrylic – antique white." 99p for 60ml squeezy bottle and exactly the same shade as all the buildings I have. |

Yep. All MDF buildings come in sheets. These sheets are sprayed prior to cutting. Thus when pieces are punched out, you have the "burn" edge. But – as mentioned, nothing you can't touch up if you wish. I find this convenient though as I've re-coloured some of my 4Ground stuff by simply spraying the MDF sheets myself a different colour (Army Painter works well for this). |

Thanks everyone. I was concerned that the burn might prevent a paint being applied to cover the burn marks. Thanks again. Greg |
