I've just based my first couple of skirmishers for my spartans, once again they are Victrix plastics
nor really sure about them being accurate but they seem to have turned out ok. So thanks for looking Cheers Russ |

I'm not sure if the pictures posted or not all I see is a blue box with a question mark in it! Photobucket seems abit fubar at the moment ! |

I see skirmishers! Yep, they're visible & very nice figures to boot. |

They look like ekdromoi – lightly-equipped younger hoplites who could suddenly dash out from the phalanx to catch or drive off enemy skirmishers who had ventured too close. |

I agree that they look like "light" hoplites as the spears seem too long to be thrown as a skirmisher would. The basing looks great! |

Thanks guys, thanks for the feedback. I'm assuming if I wanted them to be true skirmishers, they would carry javelins or be armed as some other kind of missile troops. Like I said its completely new to me so I may make afew school boy errors before I've finished, but hey I'm enjoying myself! |

I always thought that Spartan skirmishers came from the 'helot' class, slaves (or lower class citizens) in other words. Can anyone enlighten that? |

In fact they perfectly look like ekdromoi (light armed hoplites used as counter-peltasts). So they would be periokoi; IIRC helots would be lightly armed with throwing spears or javelins, smaller shields or no shields altogether. Also they would not wear helmets. |

Yes Dogged is right so perfectly usable, nice paint up and base Jim, can't wait to see the rest, are these plackys or metal? Getting hard to tell nowadays :) Cheers happy painting and playing |

Thanks for the info and comments fellas Zargon they are Victrix plastics and real nice they are! They paint up nice and they roughly come in only 4 parts, torso, spears, shield and head. I'm new to this era but ancients are becoming more and more attractive as my interest and collection grows steadily. So thanks again guys Cheers Russ |
