Have got the Container Cargo Stop around 80% designed, is 40Lx10cmW with mobile gantry (with grabbing arms for the containers) & Cargo lift. Must do in 28mm. Am thinking on what to do next: - Bricktle/Monottle – cargo shuttle based on Monorail carriage! - Tower Crane - Bar for Poly-Shelter range – two or three storey. - Poly-Banger (I'll let think on what this will be) - Hangars for poly-shelter range - Drilling Barge – use the 28mm barge as base with either mid or hanging over end mounted derrick. - Oil Rig – might do where have to supply own legs make from 100mm plastic drain pipe , as cheaper to post & don't have tools to cut the pipes. - Signal Tower (three sided) – somewhere for suicidal sniper or spotters to lurk. - Flying pleasure barge – for the obese crime lord to ride around in. - additions to the Cosymen shelter range. Any suggestions or preference will be thought about (unless forget them or go fit deep end in gibbering fit). Regards MMG. |

I suggest a change of pace and embark on a 28mm Ancients project. |

Crane and Barge sound excellent. How hard would it be to make a bus you can take the roof off of? or a Gulay-gorod type shooting thing. link |

I think you should try your hand at doing a large scale dropship, i would do a bit of research to find out what would be a popular design and what your cutting limitations are. I know that this would please a lot of members here, ive seen a few card models posted and i always think to myself how difficult would it be to produce if it could be laser cut from 1mm or 2mm MDF. Maybe something like this angular design. TMP link |

Modern looking air traffic control tower………3-4 stories high…or even just the 'lookout' for mounting on top of a regular building……. |

I'm thinking of getting some of the corridor/door sections in15mm for a project, but some etched corridor walls wold be nice, especially if there was some 3d surface detail to fix on – junction boxes, panels and computer access points etc. |
Lion in the Stars | 25 Oct 2014 11:43 a.m. PST |
OK, I'd totally buy a big dropship. In fact, I'd buy that before a bar! |

I would quite like to see a little bit more interior furniture; a bar counter, office desks/cubicles and some shopping shelves like in a supermarket or something would be awesome! |

@ MMG: I did some work on prepping the dropship that AVAMANGO mentioned for laser cutting, but found it to be too expensive via commercial channels. I'd be happy to share what I have if you are interested? |
Mad Mecha Guy | 26 Oct 2014 2:23 p.m. PST |
Dear Lsutehall I have to be carefully on what I do, in case infringe someone copyrighted design. If you own to the copyright I can cut it, I am happy to have a go at cutting one as a test. Have to work out payment if sell any. The design looks fairly easy to run off as look like a selection of flat panels excepting the top and nose cannon. If you have the plans in either JPEG, PNG or PDF form I can import them into my software & redraw lines and add locating notches & lugs and possibly some internal frames to make easier to assemble. Would use 2mm MDF as finding this better quality, easier & cleaner to cut than 3mm MDF. Regards Joseph |

Hi Joseph, I don't own the design, but the owner has made it open source; this thread has some info in: TMP link It looks as if pdf's of some description are available out on the web somewhere. I imported the dxf's into a CAD package, tidied and squared up where I could and started resizing the cutouts for 3mm MDF. It should redesign for 2mm ok, but there are a couple of pretty odd shapes, especially the nose pieces. |
Mad Mecha Guy | 26 Oct 2014 3:57 p.m. PST |
Dear Lsutehall As the gentleman has 'open-sourced' design I can do it. Once you have resized the cutouts for 2mm, could you please email me the dxf files, pretty certain I should be able to import them into my software & do cutting layout to get maximum sheet usage & set different line colours for etching & cutting. Tend to use black for cut & mid blue for etch line. Do have max sheet size of 49.6W x 29.6cmH, depending on sheets used/cutting time will a lot, lot, lot cheaper than £60.00 GBP REgards joseph |

If you have the plans in either JPEG, PNG or PDF form I can import them into my software & redraw lines and add locating notches & lugs and possibly some internal frames to make easier to assemble. That's why i selected that particular design it looked quite boxy and flat with no curves so i thought it would be easy to layout on a sheet of MDF and cut, if you are going to do them i would suggest adding much more surface detail and i wouldn't worry to much about the turret guns as there are so many 15mm tank turrets that you can buy separately from other manufacturers that could replace them. |
Borathan | 26 Oct 2014 6:56 p.m. PST |
Well, you could also do something simpler with laser cut basing caps for the lipped bases…or even make a few scenics that could work with it such as sewer lids and similar. I've always thought they'd be a good idea for the bases… |
Soldado | 27 Oct 2014 2:36 a.m. PST |
MMG Something Im looking for is "flight" stands for some grav vehicles Dont need to be tall or have pegs on but say a 50mm x 40mm base with maybe a 16mm round that can be glued to it so I can add magnets that keep it on the vehicle. |
Mad Mecha Guy | 27 Oct 2014 3:25 a.m. PST |
Borathan not sure what you mean, is it like a double layer base with solid circle bottom & 2nd layer is a hollow circle when put figure in? Soldado Do you want a 40x50 base with a separate 16mm disc (with 3-5mm hole in middle for a magnet). Regards MMG. |
Jimboba | 27 Oct 2014 11:45 a.m. PST |
Hi mmg I've punted this idea to you before along with an order. 15mm based necromunda-style terrain. Eg walkways platforms etc. modular that they could tie in with your existing stuff… Pennies worth Jimboba |
Lion in the Stars | 27 Oct 2014 12:28 p.m. PST |
@MMG: I think what Borathan is talking about is a detailed piece to put on top of a slottabase, then pin the mini to the top of the detail piece. If you could get 1mm or 2mm MDF for the detail pieces (and maybe include a 2mm plain round base to go under the topper), I'd prefer that to having ~6mm thick bases under my minis. |

Joseph, Just a quick Hercules update – I had a look over the CAD files last night. I had thought it was designed for 3mm material, but a closer look showed it to be 4.76 – ie 3/16", designed for foamcore. Reducing to 2mm will be a pretty big reduction, and I'm a little concerned over the rigidity (having never handled 2mm MDF) It may need the additional internal bracing you suggested. I'm a bit short on free time at the moment, but will try to resize some of the files soon. |
Darkest Star Games | 28 Oct 2014 7:51 a.m. PST |
I would really like to see some sort of 15mm spaceship with lift-off roof and playable interior. Could be designed with a specific ruleset in mind (i.e. can be designed for an RPG like Traveller that has a hard design sequence) without infringing on any i.p. Something like that could be really cool for both roleplay and as a tabletop objective. Heck, you could go all starport to boot! A Free Trader or Scoutship would be prime, configurable to freebooter or privateer… I have some designs hidden away for scratch building. Often wondered what the cost of mass production would be on something that could potentially be over 30" long… |
Mad Mecha Guy | 28 Oct 2014 8:52 a.m. PST |
Dear Lsutehall If the CAD are in 2D form (i.e.: laid out as to cut) I can modify themselves myself, not busy at moment (lack of orders). 2mm MDF is quite stiff, would do the wings & tails/winglets in 2 layers of 2mm for extra strength & to allow detailing on both sides. From looking at picture would be able to do RO-RO variant with minimal design work. Might be able to tweak the side hatches so can be raised & lowered with either plastic RC hinges or cut mdf shapes & magnets to lock hatches in place. ------------------------------------------- Jimboba oops, forgot about the raised walkway, platform & units idea (more bio-ROM needed) -------------------------------------------- commanderroj I will definitely have to do some corridors. -------------------------------------------- Fenwolk how big should the Gulay-gorod be? due to limitation of laser can not do a massive amount of surface etching but would be able to do base design including wheels. Bus would be doable, might be a bit small in 15mm though, could do 28mm. would be more than a bit blocky. ------------------------------------------------ Gaz0045 Airport control tower, if wanted angled windows, would be only to do as 4 sided (my lousy design skills), if windows were vertical would do as octagon. Regards
