Is there an overview of the game setting someplace? Even advertising copy is fine. Are we talking Golden Age pulp kinds of settings, or something closer to the original Rogue Trader setting? I don't mind either one, just curious. |

Hi Lion The setting for the game isn't specific. ROGUE PLANET is any place, world, or location where science fiction and fantasy elements coexist. It's more a concept than any one particular place. They game has a point based unit creation system that allows you to do pretty much anything that you like. It can be played as sci-fi with a dash of fantasy, fantasy with a schmidge of sci-fi, or fully blended sci-fantasy goodness. Full-blown sci-fantasy is where it shines though. So, established sci-fantasy settings like Rogue Trader, Final Fantasy vii and viii, Star Wars, Destiny, Barsoom, Mass Effect, and 'grim dark futures' all work really well with the rules. Think power fists, sorcery, psionics, chain blades, and really big swords. |

can't wait to look this one over |

So, is this really small units like Infinity and/or original Rogue Trader (10-20 minis per side), or larger forces like Tomorrow's War/Stargrunt/GASLIGHT/Space: 1889 (50+ minis per side)? |

Sounds great. Can you tell me where it exists on a 1-10 complexity scale if; Song of Blades and Heroes is 2 or 3, WarEngine is 4 Warhammer 40k is 6 Starfleet battles is 10 |
Bombshell Games | 26 Oct 2014 5:29 a.m. PST |
Lion, you can play with as few as 3-8 miniatures per side and have an engaging game. 10-20 makes things really interesting. The rules will scale all the way up to the higher numbers you mentioned. You can even play a with a force consisting of 4 miniatures versus a force with 35 minis and still maintain game balance. It's all in how you build your units. The various 'game levels' within the system start you with smaller forces and help you to build up to larger forces if you like. |

ordinarybass If one player already knows the rules and is teaching someone else, most players will have the basics down and be doing their own thing in just a couple of turns. Getting started from scratch just reading the rules and teaching yourself doesn't take much longer. Using the QRS and playing a solo game will give you the skills you need to game, and it will probably take about 3 games before you will ditch the QRS. Difficulty of learning the basics = 3.78 That said, it is a layered system. There are several simple mechanics, sub-systems, and concepts that interact with one another in ways that aren't apparent until after several plays. There are always decisions to make. Players that game ROGUE PLANET for any length of time will have more that a few of those 'aha' moments that will entirely shift how they approach a situation or build. There's LOTS of room for experimentation within the system [especially during campaign play]. Complexity of play [not difficulty]= 10 |

Any shared design conepts with HAVOC or Mayham or is it just a totally different animal? |
Bombshell Games | 26 Oct 2014 11:42 a.m. PST |
seldonH For the most part, it's a totally different beast. If you look closely you will see some familiar concepts, but they are expressed quite differently. I'd like to think they are more evolved and better executed. That said, if you are comfortable casting spells in Mayhem, then you'll be right at home on ROGUE PLANET. |
