Hello

This is about part four of a six-post series I'm doing over on my blog, on the 1978 UK wargaming TV programme Battleground, hosted by actor Edward Woodward.

I also started a thread on the Historical Media page of TMP here:

Today my post on Battleground episode 4, Chalons-sur-Marne, went online:

Battleground, '78 – Chalons-sur-Marne

This was the only 'Ancients' battle of the series. There are also posts about episodes where wargames of Waterloo and Edgehill were played, a series introduction, and (tomorrow and Saturday) Gettysburg, and a summing up/conclusion.

If you enjoy the posts – and I hope you might – please comment on TMP, and over at my blog.

Cheers

Seb

Been enjoying the series Sebastian, it's be interesting how the personalities have come out in the games. This is third hand, but I feel almost an Antiques Roadshow sort of vibe.

With digital cameras and editing, and Youtube, I kind of think this sort of thing could be done again, maybe without the celebrity host and fancy set. Some companies like TooFatLardies have kind of done videos that to demo their rules.

@ boy wundyr:

I've been watching series 2 of I'm Alan Partidge, during which he often describes himself thus: 'I'm Alan Partridge. I host "Norfolk Nights" on Radio Norwich, and "Skirmish", a military-based general knowledge quiz on [a] cable television channel called UK Conquest.'

First time I heard those lines I thought he'd said 'a miniatures-based general (etc)…' Now, I know AP is fictional, and a fictional loser-dork at that, but, erm… somehow he strikes me as a perfect host for a modern 'miniatures-based' wargames show!

I can just picture him mashing up the history, insulting the players, and generally adding a welcome element of humour and self-parody… perhaps this all sounds a bit perverse? But I genuinely think it'd be great.

Better even than 'Monkey Tennis'!?

hmmmmm AP meets the wargmers….sounds good.
I think there are an awful lot of gamers who could give AP a run for his money in terms of crassness, stupidity and general all-round social ineptitude.
