The Brazillian company EMBRAER has just rolled out the prototype of it's new KC-390 transport/tanker.

This is a C-130 size aircraft but will apparently be considerably cheaper (anywhere up to 20%).

There has been considerable interest in this aircraft around the world. Current announced plans see about 60 aircraft being produced initially – Argentina (6), Brazil (28), Chile (6), Colombia (12), the Czech Republic (2) and Portugal (6).

Embraer has proven to be an absolute winner for the Brazillians with their small turboprop and turbofan airliners. I'm sure many of us have flown on their E-Jet series or EJ-145 of aircraft (I certainly have here in Australia).

They've also had success in the military field with EMB-110/-111 utility aircraft and EMB-312/314 Tucano/Super Tucano trainers. The Tucano was even adopted by RAF and Armee de'l Air and the SUper Tucano version was selected by US for an export light combat aircraft.

Embraer makes some good planes, I trust them more than I trust Airbus birds.

More on this aircraft and the overall program – apparently the Swedes are interested in it too:
