"The year 1169 saw the last great military offensive of the Eastern Roman Empire. A huge Byzantine fleet of 230 warships and transports conducted an amphibious landing on the north coast of Egypt. The aim was to conquer Egypt and divide the nation between the Empire and the Kingdom of Jerusalem. A failed and poorly coordinated joint invasion of Egypt by the Kingdom of Jerusalem and the Eastern Roman Empire could have changed history.
