"A suicide bomber has killed at least 15 people and injured many more at a funeral in Baghdad. Separately, Iraqi forces are fighting for control of a key town near a major oil refinery. A suicide bomber has killed at least 15 people and wounded 30 others outside a Shiite mosque in western Baghdad where people were attending a funeral service, according to security and health officials. "The attacker approached the entrance of the mosque and blew himself up among the crowd," a police officer said about the attack in the affluent neighborhood of Harthiya. There was no immediate claim for the attack but suicide bombings are mainly carried out by Sunni jihadists in Iraq – including those belonging to the so called "Islamic State" ("IS") which has seized large parts of Syria and Iraq since June…" Full article here link Amicalement Armand |

Very much so … But the US/West never gets tired of giving guys like Baghdadi another chance at redemption … Baghdad will most likely never fall to ISIS, but with suicide bombers, long range artillery, etc. they will make the city a very difficult place to live. Don't be surprised if ISIS eventually sends suicide bombers to do a larger scale version of Benghazi on places like the US Embassy, etc. … Remember how effective the attack on the US Embassy in Saigon was during Vietnam. Militarily it was generally considered a failure. But with all the media airing of the event, etc. … It was turned into a propaganda victory for the VC/NVA. Like most of the Tet Offensive and other incidents were … Which was won by the US/ARVN/SEATO on the ground … link Will Baghdadi study history and try to attack the US Embassy as during Tet ? |

Actually, the West can't be blamed for his release. That lies with the Iraqis themselves. |

Today mortar fire hit the US "Green Zone" in Baghdad … Mortars generally don't have a very long range like artillery. So those gunners were fairly close … Favorite mortars used in the region are Russian design. The 82mm – Maximum firing range 3,040 m (3,320 yd), 120mm – effective firing range 5,700 m (6,200 yd) maximum. |

Islamic State Targets Town as Iraq Army Musters for Defense of Baghdad. "Weakness of Iraq's U.S.-Trained Military Raises Concerns as Islamic State Threatens Baghdad Just 15 minutes into a recent battle with Islamic State in the town of Dhuluiya, Ibrahim Thiab watched a group of Iraqi soldiers break ranks and flee in terror. Mr. Thiab, a former general under Saddam Hussein, commands a unit of tribal fighters also defending Dhuluiya, located 45 miles northeast of Baghdad. Instead of criticism, though, the combat veteran offered sympathy. "They had no experience fighting, and they were yelling and panicking," said Mr. Thiab, who sought out the frightened troops and promised them help from his civilian forces. The former general was more pointed about Iraq's battlefield performance against Islamic State invaders: "Ridiculous," he said. The weakness of Iraq's U.S.-trained military is a growing international worry as Islamic State fighters threaten Baghdad, with attacks as close as 12 miles west of the capital…" Full article here link Amicalement Armand |
