Short version: I have played another historical games with my own rules – Ancient Battlelines Clash. The rules are designed for fast play on a 2'x2' board. The game writeup may be found here: link Longer version: In September, i had not played a historical game with the rules for nearly 12 months. I was not entirely happy with the rules so I wrote a QRS from memory and shortened the rules to match to QRS. Rules were better for it. Played a few games but still I thought the rules were too long for fast play. I opened a blank document and wrote the rules from memory and halved the rules bloat. The rules are 95% the same but in half the words. The rules suffered from over 100 revisions over 3 years and needed it. I discuss the process here: link I am very happy and played my first game with them which went well. I am hoping this is the last crisis in the ABC rules writing for now. Here is a shot of the game – Alexander about to roll up the Persian cavalry battleline:
My next historical games with ABC are likely to jump to dark age Britain as I attempt in November to replay the scenarios from "As Told in the Great Hall: The Wargamer's Guide to Dark Age Britain" by Martin Hackett. |

Nice Shaun …… Your comment "I am happy with them (today – tomorrow it may change!)." Made me smile. |

Norm, Yep – I was happy with them in April, but not in September; and then happy mid-September but not happy by the end of September. But the length of them had always been making me slightly unhappy, so at least that has gone. |
