I have put this here rather than under Solo as it is Nap specific. Apologies if this is not correct.

Looks like I am going to be involved in some solo play and so am looking for a set of rules. So I have seen THW and Piquet but also see that Grand Manouevre has a solo module. I have also read that Black Powder plays well solo.

If anyone has experience across these (or other rule sets) I would be very interested to learn of people's experience.

I will be playing 15 mm from skirmishing and upwards.

Many thanks

I have never found a set of Napoleonic rules that I could not play solo.

Of the ones you mention, the only set I have experience of is Black Powder and it plays fine solo.

I will be playing 15 mm from skirmishing and upwards.

BP is no good for skirmish level games. For that you'd need something like Sharp Practice.

My favourite horse and musket set of rules for solo play remains On To Richmond (which includes a Napoleonic varient) the card driven activation system lends itself very well to solo games. That said, it is a brigade based game so might not be what you are looking for, but the card activation system would probably work well with other rules systems.

Solo Play…

For skirmish gaming you could try Ganesha Games "Song of Drums and Shakos." The system in general works well for solo play as you have a activation roll. link

Two Hour Wargames Muskets and Shakos. Mainly for single figure mounting you could probably make it work for figures on base as well. link

Thanks to all for your responses and links, I have found them all very helpful.

Hard to beat Piquet/Field of Battle for solo play, although certainly many other sets will work, too!

"General de Brigade, Deluxe Edition" is good for solo play.

Here's a Corp sized game I played solo. It's the French against the Russians & Austrians. Under each photo is a note that also give a battle report. With over 600 photos, I doubt many have read through it completely.

If you want Naps skirmish there's the Chain Reaction supplement 95th.
