SO we are supposed to believe that Pitt's crew were in combat for 2.5 yrs (11/42-4/45) and none of his crew got promoted? Think of how many promotions there were in BoB – and they were in combat less than one year (6/44-5/45) |

Infantry outfits in combat tended to have many promotions 'cause of casualties. Think what probably happened when a tank was hit – a high percentage of the crew were probably casualties. |

Yes, there is. That's how we secured our tracked vehicles. A hasp is welded on the loader's hatch and a padlock is put there. The driver's and tank commander's hatches were locked from the inside. But of course first you have to remember to engage the lock from the inside and remember that it is locked when you want to bail out in a hurry! Jim P.S. The loader's hatch also has an inside lock. |

Many others likely know better than I, but the following kind of assumes that armor units were run similar to how they were modeled when I went through AOBC a zillion years ago. At the beginning of the movie, he seems to have been the platoon sgt.'s wingman. As they say he is the "Acting" platoon sergeant. As one of the lower ranking TC – I suspect that the Pltn leader or Pltn Sgt would have raided his crew for replacements and he would get the new guys. |

The actual average loss from a tank being hit and penetrated was one crew man. There were lots of tanks that landed at Normandy that were never hit. The chances of running into a German tank was pretty low. An allied tank was first most likely to run over a mine, and the second most common loss of a tank was anti tank rocket fire from an infantry man. |

My psych prof in college said he worked with a man who was the sole survivor of 5 different Sherman crews. He was the TC and the fatal round would blow him out the hatch. |

I knew a man in Idaho who was in the same Sherman from D-Day to war's end…But, his tank was the ONLY original tank left in his entire company. He told me he went up against a Panther once and that he barely escaped with his life and tank intact. He never did see a Tiger though. |

My dad was a tank driver. His Sherman was hit by an 88. The round entered the tank behind his seat and exited the other side before exploding outside the vehicle. |
