Just wondering if there are any games out there that involve detailed tank combat (kinda like how battletech handles the damage etc on the mechs) As well as crew, so for example you get a stat sheet for each tank, with it's crew and armour listed. When the tank is hit there's a systemn to see exactly what was hit (ammunition, fuel etc) and if any crew members were killed. If not then I might consider making one, it might be cool to have tank 'skirmishes' where each player has a platoon of tanks as well as some supporting infantry and AT guns (simpler combat for these units) where real tactics have to be used in order to succeed, reload times, speed ratings, turret turn speed are all considered when playing so as to enable realistic play. It wouldn't have to be an insane amount of detail (might bog the game down) but the sort of detail found in most naval games should be about right (where you can samage different systems on the ship to affect it's performance etc) Thanks! link FYI – The mechanics were first presented in 2006 in the original version of NUTS. |

There is the old Avalon Hill solitaire game "Patton's Best". It focuses on a single tank and crew in a campaign setting. |

There is a free ruleset somewhere in the net, "hell on wheels" or something like that. Patton's best its an excellent boardgame, designed for one player |

Beer And Pretzels Skirmish (BAPS) has some of what you are talking about. It is a command points based game. The TC gives points/actions to various crew members and/or himself to perform actions. Likewise there is a chart to roll on for hits and penetration and to assign damage. Just a thought about game size: a platoon of tanks would use a decent amount of infantry as support. Be careful you don't get too bogged down with detailed rules to move a large amount of infantry/tanks on each side each turn. I own Patton's Best and Open Fire. Both are from V-G/AH and are based around a single vehicle. It has been a long time since either has seen daylight but I recall Open Fire as being a simpler treatment than Patton's Best. |

I remember taking Patton's Best along on Fallex, and playing it on the hood of my Iltis while waiting to run wire… ah, the fun days (except when it rained). |

Try Jovian Chronicles v1 (you can buy PDFs from DrivethruRPG: link and you will need both the Core rules and the Mechanical Catalog). It has enough detail that each machine is essentially a character by itself, complete with fun 'flaws' like "stale smell in ventilation system". It does require some number-crunching to design the vehicle in the first place, but once designed it plays pretty quickly. I wouldn't want to run more than a platoon of 4-5 vehicles with JC rules. I know Jovian Chronicles is a space mecha game, but the vehicle design rules are the same as the old Heavy Gear rules pre-Blitz. The vehicle design rules themselves don't care what the motive system you choose happens to be, whether wheels, tracks, or even walker. |

Gear Krieg with mechanical action pdf works great(silhouette system, same as Jovian Chronicles but weird war two.) |

The Face of Battle has quite detailed rules for handling tank combat, with each crew member getting his own actions and the vehicles having quite detailed damage mechanisms with a variety of locations. |

I remember "Tracktics" was pretty detailed with hit location/damage results. We called it Dungeons and Dragons for tanks. Wouldnt want to run more than a platoon, and remember the more detail you present, the slower it will play. |

Tractics!!!!!!! OMG. See Blutarski run off screaming to the rear after suffering his third turret ring hit in a row. B |

Tractics-barrel blown off, bogie and track shot to pieces and a 120mm mortar round hits the drivers' hatch: my Elefant. Better yet, a HEAT round penetration that kills the crew and the rest of the tank is intact. Whole squads would rout when machineguns opened up. And I tried the nuke rules…once. Better off mixing Patton's Best with NUTS. |

Ah, Patton's Best. Got ambushed by a Pak 43 and thought my crew were toast! The Commander reacted quickly the loader rolled rate of fire five times and the gunner hit with three of them! Next day, whilst stalking a Stug, to get a side shot, the driver bogs the tank and it gets hit by a stalking antitank team! Such are the fates of dice-driven warfare! Excellent game, with some very good mechanisms and it certainly taught you about the effort needed just to drive across country without anything going wrong. |

"Panzer" by Yaquinto had that kind of detail. |

An update to my post above about the two V-G/AH games, "Patton's Best" and "Open Fire." Open Fire is the more involved of the two. It revolves around a tank platoon-sized unit. Patton's Best is the lighter of the two and involves a single Sherman tank. I do recall fairly recently that someone on ebay had variant vehicles that could be substituted into the game (i.e. Stuarts, etc.) |

TTG: Have a look at Battleground WWII. The armoured combat rules seem to be exactly what your looking for. I love these rules which are about twenty years old and although I play other rules, these are still my preferred set. Warning however, you will need to buy some supplements to make full use of the rules. Cheers and I hope you find what you're looking for. Rod Robertson. |

It would have been nice if somebody at Hasbro got a little creative and republished Patton's Best with a Fury tie in. While I was watching the movie, I was thinking, "wow, this is like Patton's Best!" |
