Can anyone provide links between the following regiments:

1680s
- Puech
- Montfort
- Steinau
- Rummel
- Preysing
- La Rosa

1690s
- Leib
- Kurprinz
- Harthausen/Mercy
- Maffei
- Lutzenberg
- Rivera/Tattenbach
- Spielberg (no, really!)
- d'Octfort
- Bettendorf

Perhaps not much help, but, if Sapherson is correct, you can discount D'Ocfort, Spielberg and Bettendorf as he has them only formed in 1702, and probably the same logic applies to Haxthausen/Mercy, as formed in 1694. The regiments for which he gives a formation date of 1682 are Leib, Kurprinz, Tattenbach, Lutzenburg and Maffei.

Your list for "1680s" matches that in Wilson, which has a seventh regiment – Berlo. Wilson states that these formed the contribution for the relief of Vienna in 1682-3.

If Wilson and Sapherson are therefore right, the likelihood would be that five of the seven survived to become Sapherson's senior regiments for the turn of the century. If that means two were disbanded, it would not be a surprise as an economy measure between wars. Especially if they were in any sense Kreis regiments owed to the Emperor in 1682, but not owed once Bavaria had defected to the French alliance.

Thanks, that is actually very, very useful indeed.

Hi,

Hope I can help. Information, spellings and dates from Georg Tessin :

1682 Puech, 1685 Schwanenfeldt

1682 Montfort, 1688 Disbanded

1682 Steinau, 1694 Sesprez, 1696 Luzelburg, 1705 Disbanded

1682 La Perouse, 1683 Rummel, 1686 Velden, 1689 Zacco, 1696 Maffei, 1705 Disbanded

1682 Preysing, 1685 Seyboltdorff, 1693 Rivera, 1695 Tattenbach, 1704 Disbanded

1682 Degenfeld, 1683 La Rosa, 1685 Gallenfels, 1689 Schwanenfeldt, 1694 Kurprinz

1682 Berlo, 1683 Mercy, 1684 Leibregiment

1694 Haxthausen, 1695 Rivera, 1695 Haxthausen, 1703 Mercy, 1704 Disbanded

1698 Spilberg, 1699 Disbanded

1702 d'Octfort, 1704 Disbanded

1702 Bettendorf, 1704 Disbanded

So, there are some links there but not many !

That was a very nice question for an lineage nut like me (there are other words I could use !)

I am currently working on a lineage spreadsheet for the Dutch army and then hope to move on to the many (many) German states inc Bavaria. I'll post when its done. Might be a while…

In the meantime, very glad to help with any other lineage queries.

Cheers,

Phil
