Just got my Military Officers Association E-News Letter … Check out this little piece of intel …

Science Fiction Writers as Security Advisors?

You might not think of science fiction writers as security advisors, but they are particularly innovative in their thinking, which is why the Department of Homeland Security reached out to a group of science fiction writers regarding the global war on terror.

As long as they get paid a lot of money for scamming the government, more power to them.

Talk to Jerry Pournelle, who had/has a long-standing seat as an adviser on military technology to the gov't.

Larry Niven fantasized about this in his book Footfall.

Jerry Pournelle could use an adviser on how to treat his fans. The man is an ass.

US military needs to listen to somebody different to get a view thats not from far right or left. Wargamers have been pretty good for them.

Hmmm…if the choice is between a sci fi writer and a wargamer I'd go the sci fi writer!

I agree, some thinking out of the box is good. I don't think that is scamming. I'm former Military [US ARMY INFANTRY … HOOWAH !!], I like Sci-fi and I'm a gamer … maybe they should higher me ! evil grin But I don't want anyone to think the military does not have any forward thinkers, they do … Been there, done that … But a good sci-fi writer may have some things to add. Also, Heinlein and Drake were vets, among others …
