All these news we've been hearing of ISIL "knock knock knockin' on Baghdad's door" needed a dose of reality check and a bit of context: link |

No, you should only post articles from sites that give money to Joe the Plumber. |

That reads like a more balanced and realistic assessment alright…. |

ISIS made ground because the central Iraqi government had alienated and angered Sunni parts of the country. Made for easy pickings, at least until the West pays off Sunni tribes to overthrow ISIS (which is why the Surge was effective). ISIS has no chance of taking over Baghdad or anything like that. This is a more reasonable and realistic article than the last one, at least. |

Politico, are you serious? YouTube link Bottom line, they DON'T need to capture Baghdad, they just need to discredit the regime, by making life very difficult for its 7 million inhabitants. |

As I said on another thread, Daesh can't/won't take a city as big as Baghdad. But they can send suicide bombers, shell the outskirts, etc., etc. … And make things very uncomfortable for all the denizens of Baghdad. Not to mention they could possibly take the airport, which would be very bad for a number of reasons. Of course there are hundreds of US civilain and military personnel in Baghdad and the airport, etc. … They don't have to take Baghdad, just surround it and/or capture the airport … The West will have to be air dropping supplies like was done with the Yazides on Sinjar Mtn. … And those aircraft would probably under Deash ADA fire. WoW !! What a bigger mess this could be ! |

Siege warfare is alive and well in the 21st Century. Wonder how long before they capitulate? |
