Last night our club fought the Battle of Peachtree Creek on a 4x4 tabletop, using Altar of Freedom. It takes a very aggressive Confederate player to pull out a win in this matchup, and we ramped up the difficulty for both sides by using hidden movement. A brief AAR with photos is available on our site. For anyone planning to attend "Fall In" this November, we'll be running this one again to see if we can manage a different result!

It looks nice. Are you using brigade stands?

Yessir. We're using 60mmx30mm bases to represent an entire brigade. Tags on the back of the bases identify the unit and its modifier, which is based on historical roster strength for that battle. The system is designed to run the big battles in an evening--by those standards Peachtree Creek is a small/medium engagement. We fought this one to a conclusion in under three hours.

I use Volley and Bayonet; I don't have any problems fighting big battles with brigade stands.

Trying to figure out how many figures (6mm) I would need to play something similar to this. Do you have 6 strips of inf. and 1 strip of skirmishers per base?
Table looks great.

For games at this army-level scale (Altar of Freedom or Volley and Bayonet), the actual number of figures on the base doesn't matter so much. It's just the visual impact of whatever looks cool. My bases seen in the photos are 60mmx30mm, Baccus minis, 6 strips of infantry (24 figures total) and anywhere from 0-4 skirmisher figures in front. Sometimes I throw a mounted officer on the base, and I think that is a really good look in 6mm.

Looks fantastic, as always!

One can appreciate the larger battles achieved in the smaller scale, fantastic looking game.
