The Struggle of Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck against the Allies in and around German East Africa during World War I is the stuff of legend. Outnumbered and frequently out of supply, the troops of Imperial Germany were still in the field and active against their enemies when the war ended.
His self-appointed mission was to tie down forces that otherwise might have been employed against Germany. To do this, he struggled against the Political leadership of German East Africa, a chronic lack of supplies, and enemy units from Britain, South Africa, Rhodesia, Belgium, Portugal and others.
Most of the units on both sides of the struggle were African. The officers were white, but in this period before African Nationalism, the troops willingly fought for the Kaiser Wilhelm or the King-Emperor George V. The basic arms for both sides were the rifle and the machine gun. While there was some artillery, the supply of shells was always low.
With "The Sword in East Africa" and a copy of Larry Brom's colonial rules "The Sword and the Flame" you can fight actions in this African WWI campaign.
