This is a non-fiction book about the origins of ebola and the various outbreaks since it first came out of the jungle. While I admit the author is a bit sensational in his writing style, it is a scary book. I couldn't put it down even when I knew the outcomes of most of the outbreaks. But then again I am a sucker for unfolding disaster stories. Xin |

Lets see 30,000 die every year on US roads from accidents. 585,000 from cancer every year in the US and nearly 2 million are diagnosed with cancer every year. But we call one death and one infected a disaster? |

I read this too, very useful for understanding the problem. Written 10 years ago, but the history is still valid. He needs a new edition, with an up date telling how the current situation developed. Road kill and cancer are not contagious and will not wipe out the world if let loose. Think more of the Influenza 1918 pandemic: 40 million dead. |

Flu and MRSA are contagious and have a better chance of 'wiping out the world' than ebola ever will. And 20,000+ at least will die of MRSA this year in the US. And the flu? Last bad one had, IIRC, 50,000+ dead in the US. |

Ebola really isn't an issue if your medical staff are familiar with the disease. Far from the media, the Congolese dealt successfully with an outbreak this year, as have the Senegalese. |
