I've eventually finished a French demi-brigade. The figures are from Warmodelling, flags by myself.

Thanks for looking,

Nice unit – those early Napoleonic French have a very distinctive look

KTravlos14 Oct 2014 9:32 a.m. PST

indeed very nice

brunet14 Oct 2014 9:50 a.m. PST

these look good.
Did the french already had light companies?

Eclipsing Binaries14 Oct 2014 11:50 a.m. PST

I am fairly sure the French didn't introduce the light companies for another year or two, but I'd already painted that base when I realized. (Though it may be Voltiguers that weren't introduced yet – maybe someone on here can clarify for us).
It's easy to get it wrong though as there seems to be a lot of reference material online that shows uniforms for light companies, plus figure companies supply suitable miniatures. I'm happy to include the light company for aesthetics, if not for accuracy, but will be including a few battalions without light companies.

they had light companies, they formed a so called eclaireur unit out of volunteers from all the companies – so bi yellow collars but basing fusiliers as skirmishers would be perfectly ok

Nicely done Colin!

A battle I would like to recreate one day. Great inspiration.

Doug, its a battle I'd like to recreate as well, but nearly a year of collecting and painting and I'm only half way with the Austrians and only just begun the French.

I'm working on some skirmisher bases now, and I've one base finished as a tester. I've used Warmodelling again and they've turned out pretty good.

Colin,
Very well done, and a first for me as I've really never seen their early French painted up. How well do they match up to AB's in size?

John, they are slightly larger, but when mixed its not noticeable. I'll be working on a mixed battalion next so you'll see how well they work together.
