A member of FoW forums posted a reported excerpt from latest Wargames Illustrated that advertises FoW Digital. This presumably will be what replaces Easy Army, which Battlefront recently absorbed.

Here's the fella's post:

A NEW WAY TO VIEW YOUR FAVOURITE WWII BOOKS!

Flames Of War Digital provides you with the access to the growing range of Flames Of War products quickly and easily. From this app you will be able to download exclusive free-of-charge digital content, purchase new Intelligence Handbooks and individual Briefings for the first time. Keep up to date with Lessons from the Front, product errata and Know Your Enemy.

Now you will be able to keep your entire collection of Flames Of War books on your iPad (and coming soon to your Android device) making them easier than ever to carryand reference in the heat of battle.

This is the ultimate reference tool for the Flames Of War player!

. Purchases are stored in the cloud so you can access them from multiple iPads.

. Up to date resources.

. Growing catalogue of Intelligence Handbooks, Briefings and errata.

. Exclusive digital-only free content.

. Out-of-print back catalogue items.

. Functionality allowing you to quickly navigate to pages with a simple touch of the screen.

What can you expect to find in Flames Of War Digital?

In the Digital app you will be able to purchase copies of entire books with the histories, rules, painting guides, photos and of course army lists. Everything that you have come to expect from a Flames Of War book, but now combined with the advantage of being easy to carry and add to your collection as new books are released.

We have also come up with an innovative way to help you build your companies on the go or take your specific list to tournaments, events or even your friend's house with the option to purchase a specific company from a book. This option gives you just company and platoon diagrams you need to build your force as well as the specific rules and arsenal entries you need, making an army list quick and easy to navigate as well as reference under fire.

AVAILABLE FREE WITH THE APP:

The Art Of War Volume 1 (Dirty Tracks)
The Art Of War Volume 2 (Wehrmacht Editon!)
Great War rules.

AVAILABLE FOR APP PURCHASE:

Bridge At Remagen
Barbarossa
Know Your Enemy Early War (Revised) 2014
Know Your Enemy Late War (Revised) 2014

There was a website link (www.flamesofwar.com/digital), but it doesn't work at the moment.

Hmmmm, be interesting to see if they leave my design and writing credits (and I guess project management) in the Art Of War volumes…

Unlikely since they are still using my work prevalently in all the other printed material without credit and hide behind the 'we changed it 10%' BS.

Oh well, we will see if douchebaggery prevails.

McWong7313 Oct 2014 3:52 p.m. PST

credits aside, and considering they always got them wrong in some way, I'dlove know the price point.

Baron Trapdoor13 Oct 2014 4:40 p.m. PST

The 10% change was in the credits page D when they changed…

"Graphic design by DrDeeNZ" to "Graphic design by blah blah blah"

Other than that everything else is still the same :)

princeman13 Oct 2014 4:50 p.m. PST

You do not want to know what I think.

DrDeeNZ13 Oct 2014 5:10 p.m. PST

"Graphic design by DrDeeNZ" to "Graphic design by blah blah blah"

I know right. It amazes me they are happy to do that openly. It is absolutely no different than me re-casting a FOW model but adding 1 piece of stowage, claiming 10% change and selling it as my own model….

I guess ethics is a one way street….

The temperature in Auckland just went up 10 degrees!

…and in other news today…
NO CAKE TODAY!

FOR ANYONE!

DrDeeNZ13 Oct 2014 6:10 p.m. PST

hahaha!

Just remember to share your donuts!

Privateer4hire13 Oct 2014 7:28 p.m. PST

I thought the cake was a lie any way.

On another note, BF have responded to the posting of the Wargames Illustrated ad for FoW Digital noting:

1. Prices announced in that ad were made before BF were able to make their recent deal on printing the hard copy books (that resulted in a significant reduction in their physical book prices). That is, the prices for digital content aren't finalized.

2. They acknowledge that I-devices are extremely popular and thus their initial focus on providing digital support to those platforms. But they apparently have plans to support other systems that don't 'have apples on them' at a later point.

So they are taking the GW route of ONLY releasing for the Apple zombies at first? Will this even work on my PC or are they killing off EA and only releasing the new version for Android and Apple devices?

If so, then I won't be a happy camper.

Winston Smith13 Oct 2014 8:46 p.m. PST

I better buy my hard copy Barbarossa before it vanishes in a puff of smoke.

DrDeeNZ13 Oct 2014 9:07 p.m. PST

Android will be tougher as there is no way to stop getting access to the files that are stored in the 'cloud'.
Obviously the cloud storage is an anti-piracy attempt, I would be surprised if it ever goes past the 10% of smart device owners who use Apple products.

Biggest issue is I cannot think of one person in BF management who has more than a rudimentary understanding of digital technology outside of playing World of Warcraft.

Baron Trapdoor13 Oct 2014 9:50 p.m. PST

They can order Dunkin Donuts online.

Privateer4hire13 Oct 2014 10:44 p.m. PST

I may be wrong but I gather that Greg, the person who built Easy Army in the first place, is the technical core behind their digital efforts.

jameshammyhamilton14 Oct 2014 3:28 a.m. PST

It looks like Battlefront have been taking lessons from Slitherine in how to deploy a digital wargames product.

bob69614 Oct 2014 9:27 a.m. PST

"It looks like Battlefront have been taking lessons from Slitherine in how to deploy a digital wargames product."

What you mean over priced and empty of content?

Lordgoober14 Oct 2014 11:23 a.m. PST

They commented about how it was easier to start with apple but will eventually move towards android. Also they confirmed the costs on the books on there will be adjusted based on the new book prices.

"I may be wrong but I gather that Greg, the person who built Easy Army in the first place, is the technical core behind their digital efforts."

That makes sense, he just needs to be wary, BF have a habit of using people for a purpose then quickly (and almost always nastily) pushing them away once they have what they want. We used to refer to it as the 'burning bridges syndrome'.
