Just purchased battleship row and bitter rivals. This we be our first adventure into miniature war gaming. Out of the scenarios from the books which would be good to start out with? Also, we were wondering if there are other scenarios out there, ones that dont require a lot of ships as we build up our fleets.

You could set up a 1 v 1 or 2 v 2 for starters to get the mechanics down. Use the bigger ships and work your way down to escorts.

Battle of the River Plate is a nice battle and interesting to play.

river plate is good, Dad takes Graf Spee, 1 son takes Exeter, the other takes Ajax and Achillies.

Denmark Straight is good and a classic, if not exactly a "Fair" scenario.
(Bismark and Prinz Eugen v Hood & Prince of Wales)

If you are willing to stretch history a bit, there is a scenario set in 1940 I think where the Renown (I think) is in a stern chase with the twins. (Scharnhorst and Gneisneau) you could bring her sister Repulse into the deal and it would be a fair ish scenario to learn the rules.
imho, most atlantic stuff is a bit one sided, as is most of the med, if you ignore crew quality.

I would think that the cruiser actions in the pacific would be interesting and more "Balanced" for rules learning.

you could also just pick a few ships you like the look of and have a go. just keep in mind that, although NT has points values, 2,000 points of Battleships is NOT equal to 2,000 points of cruisers. a better way to "balance" things would be to get each opposing ship roughly equivalent in "class" and "generation"

how old are your sons? if they are no longer youngsters you may not care so much for balancing things.

just my thoughts,

Here's a funny one lads. I'm currently at work but it's dinnertime. I Googled "Naval Thunder" and the link to the site appeared on the results. No mistake here, I could read the two lines you see under the link on the list and it was definitely about naval wargaming.

And yet the site is blocked by the security software at work because the site is classified as a sex site???
